Greetings, Soto Street families. This is Principal Sandra Proano Montañez with an important update.
We are experiencing significant heat across our region this week. As always, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.
Soto Street is taking the following precautions to maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment:

Modifying recess, lunch, and outdoor schedules so students do not remain outside for extended periods.

Modifying or limiting physical education and after-school outdoor activities as needed.

Working with our Building and Grounds team to ensure that our air-conditioning systems are operating properly.

Keeping doors and windows closed in air-conditioned rooms.

Providing students with frequent reminders and opportunities to drink water.

Closely monitoring students during physical activity and modifying or limiting activities when necessary.

Limiting the use of asphalt, concrete, playground equipment, and artificial-turf areas when surfaces become too hot.
Families can support these efforts by:

Sending students to school in comfortable, lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.

Applying sunscreen and providing an appropriate hat for students who walk to or from school.

Encouraging students to drink plenty of water. Students may bring a refillable plastic water bottle labeled with their name. For safety reasons, please do not send glass containers or metal canteens.

Informing the school nurse or classroom teacher if your child has a health condition that may be aggravated by excessive heat.

Reminding your child to immediately report symptoms such as unusual fatigue, dizziness, fainting, extreme thirst, dehydration, headache, nausea, or muscle cramps to an adult.
