CLIMATE LITERACY CHAMPION - School Selection Form 2026-2027
Please complete this form to identify one teacher, from your school, who would be interested in serving as your school's Climate Literacy Champion for the 2026-2027 school year. The Climate Literacy Champion's main responsibility will be to support the integration of climate literacy into all core subject areas in all grade levels and to report on school site efforts made towards this goal. The Climate Literacy Champion will receive a stipend for 15 hours of work completed outside of any district paid time, recorded on a log (template will be provided).  For more information, please review the Climate Literacy Champions Differential IOC

Responsibilities of a Climate Literacy Champion

Climate Literacy Champions serve a vital role for a full academic year and are responsible for the following to ensure climate change education becomes a well-established and impactful part of the Los Angeles Unified student experience.

  • Attend one Climate Literacy Champion Orientation meeting.
  • Lead the development, support, and promotion of climate literacy education across all subjects and grade levels in their schools.
  • Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, parents, and community partners.
  • Promote relevant resources, including those in the LAUSD Climate Literacy Schoology Group (Access Code: CFV9-FGK8-MN26S).
  • Continuously learn through professional development to improve climate literacy education.
  • Support and participate in Districtwide and Regional Climate Literacy events and programs.
  • Regularly monitor and respond to communications from the Division of Instruction.
  • Regularly monitor the LAUSD Climate Literacy Champions Schoology course, where the differential time and effort log, calendar, and additional resources for champions are shared.
  • Maintain the differential time and effort log and collect artifacts of work done each semester.
  • Share the log with the principal to be informed of the champion’s activities.
  • Sign and submit the completed log with artifacts to the principal for signature.
